Manifesting the Australian beach life
4 minute read ⌚
Based in Coventry, in the West Midlands, we are the furthest city away from a beach in the whole of the UK.
The nearest one to us, as the crow flies, is Weston-Super-Mare, which many fellow UK dwellers will agree, isn’t the most pleasant beach to visit with the kids.
Therefore, we tend to venture a little bit further to get our sandy fix. Just over 4 hours to be exact.
Over the last 4 years, our UK holiday destination of choice has been Hoborne in St Mabyn in Cornwall, which is a secluded, idyllic holiday park about 45 minutes away from Newquay and 20 minutes away from Padstow and Port Isaac.
As a family, our absolute favourite spot has to be Fistral Beach in Newquay.
Fistral Beach
It’s famous for its prestigious surfing waves as well as a stunning coastline and golden sands. We have visited this particular beach in summer, autumn and winter and it never fails to impress us.
We definitely refer to it as our happy place.
From listening to the waves crash against the rugged shore to admiring the surfers out on the ocean, it really is the perfect place to have a break and just take it all in.
Our most recent trip was definitely the best yet. With our children now being 12 and 9, they are more confident in the sea and were both more willing to be adventurous during this holiday.
Armed with new bodyboards and wetsuits, they headed down to the ocean each day we were there and really caught some waves!
My husband and I also enjoyed this sport whilst we were there, although we didn’t realise what a full-body workout it was going to be!
As I sat on the beach watching them all enjoying the sea and begging us to go back each day, all I could think was- ‘This could be our new life in Australia, not just an annual holiday’.
This thought made me smile and I really started to manifest how much better our lives could be down under.
Being outside, enjoying great weather, being away from devices developing confidence, resilience and having fun in the sea – I want this for my children and for us as part of our lives. It has really made me consider how far away from the beach I am willing to live and this really is a non-negotiable when we start to research suburbs and areas more closely.
