Christmas in Australia
4 minute read ⌚
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.
In the HTWA household, we had a lovely time with friends and family. We are well aware it may be the last ever, or at least for a good while.
Christmas in Australia is something I’ve pondered many times. A short while ago I would have shuddered at the thought of spending Xmas day in 30 degrees plus weather.
Over the course of the last few years, my dislike for the cold and dark of the British winter has grown and grown. It just makes me feel bad and saps my energy. Bad vibes.
Therefore, now I do feel like I could really go for a barbecued Christmas dinner. Turkey burgers all round!
Does it ‘Feel’ Like Christmas
With that said, both myself and Danielle have had thoughts that Christmas will be very different in Australia. It seems obvious and stupid when you write it down.
By different I mean that I cannot envisage the big roast dinner.
Obviously friends and family will not physically be there (hopefully sometimes they will).
No dodgy Christmas Jumpers – I’m lowkey upset about that one.
The feel of Christmas must be very different, and we’re prepared to make new traditions.
Aussie Christmas Vlogs
Fortunately, we live in a world where we no longer have to wonder what things are like on the other side of the world at Christmas.
The Great Emigrate
Below you can hear from friends of the site The Great Emigrate on their experience of an Australian Christmas from the perspective of a British family.
That Johnston Life
This is a slightly older video, however, Ross from That Johnston Life outlines some of the main differences between an Australian Christmas and the rest of the world. With obviously many comparisons to a UK Christmas.
Trudy & Edd Travel
Trudy and Edd Travel bring you some observations from their first Christmas in Melbourne, Australia.
I’ve not watched any of their videos previously but was thrilled to see that Christmas Day parkrun is a thing in Australia.
This year I completed the Christmas Day parkrun in Coventry, UK and would definitely like to continue that when we move to Adelaide.
