Received – South Australia State Nomination
4 minute read â
Opening my emails in the middle of Marks and Spencerâs to get my âclick and collectâ code for my daughterâs lunchbox was not the place I thought I would be when I found out that we had been invited by South Australia for state nomination!
Still feeling a bit ill and discombobulated from our recent holiday to Turkey, I had to read the email on the shop floor about 3 times before finally realizing what this meant. My daughter kept asking if I was ok as I was shaking and kept repeating âOh my God!â aloud.
After collecting her lunchbox (clearly the most important thing on her agenda for the day) I had to go and treat myself to a cold drink in the café surrounded by old ladies.
I immediately called the other half to inform him, almost shouting as he didnât respond at first! Little did I know that he was trying to get out of earshot of colleagues as they arenât aware of our adventure just yet.
Five days on and we are both still in shockâŠas well as other various emotions. I hate to be clichĂ© but this week has been a rollercoaster! I think it is the rapid turnaround of everything coupled with the sheer realization that this is all very real!
Before we went on holiday to Turkey, I had seen on Facebook that another teacher with the same amount of points as me had been waiting a year to hear back for state nomination.
Therefore, I had tarnished myself with the same brush and our holiday conversations consisted of where our next holiday could be.
Maybe a big trip to Florida next summer or maybe a nice Christmas trip somewhereâŠ.
However, South Australia has other ideas! And now instead of saving for a trip, we are cobbling the funds together for the visa, medicals, ACROs and final agent fees!
Donât get me wrong, we are incredibly grateful and canât believe our luck.
We know how long other people have waited and also the lengthy paths other people have had to take to achieve the Australian dream. We just need to get over the initial shock and crack on now.
