Why Wouldn’t You Want the Australian Weather?
6 minute read ⌚
For months on end now, the rain in Coventry in the UK has been miserable.
I suspect the same is true of most of the UK, for that matter at the time of writing.
Cosy Autumn Evenings
It used to be that I would look forward to the cosiness of the darker nights of Autumn and Winter. The burnt orange and red leaves in the Autumn trees in October and November were an annual highlight.
The stark reality now is that you don’t get a chance to enjoy the scenery in a British winter.
The cold, wind and rain seem to be colder, windier and rainier than ever before.
Sky News reported that the last 18 months have been the wettest on record in England.
So the reality is in Winter you get stuck indoors. Binge-watching Netflix and binge-eating rubbish.

The Healthy Lifestyle
Admittedly, we in the HTWA household could do more in pursuit of a healthy lifestyle but we are trying in a country that seems to want us to do less.
It’s not all about the weather of course, according to a 2019 study Brits worked the longest hours in the EU. Leaving us with even fewer hours in which to do the outdoor activities we enjoy.
However, when the weekend comes around. You find yourself praying to the weather gods to show mercy on you so you can get out and do your local Park Run.
More importantly, the children are having their activities impacted. The last few months have seen my son’s football team have more matches cancelled than they have been able to play.
And in the summertime, my daughter would love to get out in the garden and practice some gymnastics but the weather is often unkind.
That Australian Weather
So, coming back around to the title of the post, why wouldn’t you want the Australian weather?
I now hope to be able to experience life in a country that can provide consistent warm sunny weather. For the benefit of the whole family.
We have heard families we subscribe to on YouTube such as That Johnston Life and The Bam Famalam talk about the fantastic parks in Australia.
Parks with communal barbecues, people clean and actually look after! In Cov, they’d be nicked and sold on for scrap metal in days.
Picnics at the park and regular trips to the beach is the future I want for my family.
I appreciate there will be times when the weather is ‘too hot’ and that with more exposure to the Sun comes certain scary health risks.
Sitting on your arse eating crisps and watching Netflix with the heating on also brings scary health risks – I’ll ensure we wear sun protection and take my chances with Australia, please!
From following a few families who have made the trip over to Australia on Instagram. It’s clear that kids’ sporting and activity clubs are great too.
Our children are already excited by the prospect of the weather supporting their sporting ambitions rather than getting in the way of them.
The weather is a huge motivating factor for us wanting to make the move from the UK to Australia.
