190 Visa Granted!
5 minute read ⌚
Incredibly, just 42 days after our 190 visa application was submitted to the Australian immigration authorities by our migration agent, we have had our visas granted!
We didn’t expect such a swift decision. As you can see from the image below, 50% of applications are being processed within 17 months and 90% are within 18 months.
Our 190 visa grant time seems to be far quicker than the norm for whatever reason.

Why Was Our 190 Visa Grant Time So Fast?
The question of why or how we managed to get a visa granted so quickly is an interesting one. The reality is it can only be a mixture of a number of factors.
- The requirement and urgency for the nominating state, South Australia to recruit more Primary School Teachers
- The relatively high points total we were able to achieve for our visa application (90 points)
- The accuracy and promptness of the paperwork that was submitted to support the application
All of the above could have been contributing factors that contributed to the speedy grant time of our 190 visas.
How Do We Feel About It?
It was a bit of a shock to receive the golden email so quickly. The children were a little anxious that this thing was really happening! I understand their reaction completely.
We always knew the goal was to move to the other side of the world. It’s scary when someone tells you that you are free to go and do it though.
My emotions can be summed up with the following metaphor:
I feel like I’m on a rollercoaster and it’s been making that first big ascent. All of the paperwork and associated jobs like medicals feel like you are climbing a hill. Now with the visa grant, it’s like we’ve just teetering over the edge, about to fly down that first descent at high speed.
It’s both exciting and scary.
Telling everyone else feels like you are either letting them down or rubbing their nose in it. All for pursuing your dream.
I don’t want to sound negative, it’s just how we’ve felt as a couple over the last week since we found out.
What Happens Next?
With visas in hand. We need to get on to the practical planning for actually moving across to Adelaide, South Australia.
We have plenty to organise and will start by carrying on with the house clearance to help fund the flight to Australia.
In addition to that, we will need to research the area that we want to move to. The Brighton/Seacliff area is currently on our radar.
In addition to that we have to think about when to put the house on the market. Sort out jobs. Research Schools etc.
There is plenty to do! 😱
How does our 190 visa grant time compare to yours?
If you have any information about Adelaide and the local area we’d love to hear from you. Especially if you’ve also made the move from the UK to Adelaide.
We’re very grateful of anyone who has got in touch via Instagram to wish us well or offer information.
You can share your migration story and possibly get featured in our blog.
